Caring for a rabbit is a lot different from traditional pets because they have a lot of special needs and requirements that other pets don’t have. Hutch

Ideally, your rabbit’s cage should be at least 4 times larger than your rabbit, but bigger is always better especially if it will spend most of its time inside the cage. The cage’s floor should be solid. Lots of people still use cages that have wire floors in them with removable pads on the bottom as this makes them easier to clean, but these types of cages often cause sores on the rabbits feet and can lead to many problems.If the only cage that you have access to as a wire floor and, then you need to cover up with either a piece of wood, some grass, or some sisal mats.

Your Rabbits Diet

Rabbits love to eat green this you need to have a supply of grass hay on hand such as brome or timothy. This is a primary part of your rabbits diet, and it truly helps to keep your rabbit healthy by ensuring that it has a clean intestinal tract. You will also need to keep a supply of quality rabbit pellets on hand. Make sure that your younger rabbits, under the age of six months old, dead poets a minimum protein content of 15 to 19% and a minimum of 18% fiber. You are also going to need to feed your rabbit things such as collard greens, carrots tops, different types of lettuce, turnip greens, and any other type of dark leafy green vegetable that might come to mind. You need to give your rabbit a minimum of 2 cups leafy green vegetables for every 6 pounds that it weighs. Give your rabbit a clean and fresh supply of water at all times.

Litter Box Training

For the most part, rabbits have a tendency to use one part of its cage for its toilet. Once your pet makes up it’s mind, fill it with pelleted-newspaper litter or timothy hay. The litter box should be changed daily to keep the cage as clean and as odorless as possible.

Keeping the Cage Cleaned

Make sure that you clean your rabbits cage once a week. Place your pet inside an alternate cage or somewhere safe around your house. Make sure that you sweep the floor in the cage and remove anything that is solid waste. Whenever you clean and scrub the cage floor, make sure that you use soap and warm water.

Handling Your Rabbit

Many rabbits are injured because they are not handled properly. Never pick up a rabbit by its ears. When you pick up a rabbit, make sure that you use one hand to support its front legs and the other its back legs.

Supplies for Your Rabbit

Any rabbit owner must have the following: A cage or a hutch, litter for the litter box, a rabbit carrier or pet carrier, hay, a brush for grooming, rabbit pellets for food, chew toys that are safe, a box for digging, and any watering and food bowl which is preferably made out of ceramic.
