Two Of The More Popular Species of Saltwater Aquarium Fish
Mollies – These are often one of the first species of saltwater aquarium fish that owners of such tanks will place into theirs. This is because this species of tropical fish don’t have too many problems in coping with varying levels of salt in their tank water. Certainly during the first few weeks after setting up a saltwater aquarium as any aquarist will tell you, getting the environment exactly right, including salinity levels can take time. Yet of all the various breeds of tropical fish which one can place in a saltwater aquarium, these are one of the hardiest and are able to cope well with any changes in their environment.
Mollies although they come in a wide variety of colors, including Gold, Silver and Dalmation, generally the ones you see in most tanks are Black. But whatever color you choose they all make a wonderful addition to a saltwater aquarium because of the design of the large back fins and broad tails. When buying Mollies for your tank at home, make sure that you purchase two females of the species along with every male.
The saltwater aquarium into which you are going to be placing your Mollies should not only have a good filtration system but also contain plenty of plants if at all possible. This particular species of tropical fish, if waste is allowed to build up in the tank, can become ill very easily, and they are often the cause of so much waste in the tank also.
Damsels – Another great species of tropical fish which are perfect to keep in a saltwater aquarium after it has only been recently set up. These particular fish are relatively inexpensive to purchase and come in a wide variety of colors. But you do need to be aware that this particular breed of saltwater aquarium fish can be very aggressive towards other species of fish which you place into your saltwater aquarium.
Ideally when buying Damsel fish to put in your saltwater aquarium, it is best if you select the breeds known as the Yellowtail or Blue Devil, as both are far less aggressive towards other species of fish. However, if you do intend to keep those species of Damsels which can act aggressively towards other species of saltwater aquarium fish then it is far better to keep them in a separate tank. This is even more important if the tank you currently have is not very large.
As well as the two species of tropical fish we have discussed above there are plenty of other wonderful species of tropical fish that one can keep in a saltwater aquarium. You can if you want keep Angelfish, Clownfish, Lionfish or Tangs in your salt water tank and all of which are just as popular as Damsels and Mollies.
