Dog House Doors For Your Dog

by Johnathan Livingston

The importance of Dog House Doors is more than just a door for your dog to go in and out of. While you want your petsafe dog doors to easily swing open and shut, letting your dogs use it without problem, house dog doors also deliver security and a comfort to your pet. And even though dogs don’t seek privacy the way we humans occasionally do, they like to retreat to an enclosed area at times.

You’ve no doubt seen dogs sleep curled up under a table or furniture of that sort. Some of them even prefer a blanket covering one or more of the sides. This is probably due to their instinctual need for shelter, even if they are indoors. When out of doors, dog houses and their petsafe dog doors give dogs the enclosed shelter they crave. Plus, since this area is enclosed, dogs feel secure, knowing they don’t have to be on alert at all times.

When choosing a pet door amongst all the house dog doors to choose from, consider what you want the pet door for. Is it just for style and something for your dog to go in and out of? Or is it a pet door to keep out the elements - be it rain, strong wind, cold, or snow? If it’s the latter, then choose your pet door accordingly. Make sure the doors you look at are sturdy enough to keep out strong and chilly winds, as well as moisture.

Dog House Doors must fit in order to protect your dog. Dog House Doors can be too small or too big, both of which present problems. If they’re too big, they won’t work. They’ll get stuck in the doorway, which won’t do your dog any good. Such ill fitting petsafe dog doors will keep your dog stuck on the outside and unable to get, or keep, warm or dry inside.

You also need to make sure the doors aren’t too small. While going in and out won’t be a problem because the door will easily swing, having a too small door will defeat its purpose. You want a door to keep inclement weather out, and if it’s too small, rain, wind, and certainly the cold will easily get inside a dog house. This also defeats the purpose of a dog house, since they’re supposed to protect your dog from the weather.

A dog house should also be a cozy place to put a dog bed. Your dog will feel loved if it has a secure place to rest. Putting the dog bed inside a dog house gives a secure and comfortable feeling to your dog. This satisfies that instinct for an enclosure of some sort. If you’ve ever seen wild dogs or wolves, you’ve seen them build dens. These dens keep their pups safe and warm, but the adults also prefer an enclosure of some sort.

As a caring pet owner, you also want to ensure the dog bed is kept dry. Dog House Doors that are ill fitting won’t keep the dog bed in very good condition. If the door is too small, inclement weather will get inside, causing dampness. This wetness will make the dog bed wet, which can cause mold and mildew to grow. These will cause allergies and sometimes serious health problems, such as respiratory diseases.

Dog House Doors are made of various types of materials. Wood is the most common material for house dog doors. Many owners, however, have turned to a clear plastic. A sturdy plastic is a more weather resistant material than wood; it won’t collect moisture and become warped. Additionally, plastic Dog House Doors are easier to clean. Plus, a clear plastic allows your dog to see outside to some extent, which is an added bonus.

Because Dog House Doors do more than open and shut, do some research before deciding on the one to buy. Consider the weather your geographic area gets and make sure you get a door that fits properly. You want your dog to have a safe and cozy place outdoors, so carefully weight your options. If you do, you’re sure to have a happy dog!
